In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): A fertility treatment where fertilization occurs outside the body, typically in a laboratory setting.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): A specialized form of IVF where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to facilitate fertilization.
Egg Freezing: Preserving a woman's eggs for future use, often recommended for those facing medical treatments that may affect fertility or for personal reasons.
Embryo Freezing: Freezing embryos for future use in IVF cycles, offering flexibility and higher success rates in subsequent attempts.
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT): Screening embryos for genetic disorders before implantation, enhancing the chances of a successful pregnancy and healthy baby.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)- It is a simple painless procedure which is similar to the natural process of conception. It involves washing and placing the concentrated sperms of the husband or donor into the uterus around the time of ovulation. The success rate is 20-25% per cycle.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)- is commonly known as “Test Tube Baby”. It involves inducing multiple egg development using hormonal injections and then taking them out by giving short anesthesia through vagina under ultrasound guidance. The fertilization of the egg is done outside the body in the lab. Depending upon the growth, number, grading and other multiple reasons, the resultant embryo is placed back into the uterus on day 3 or day 5 (Blastocyst transfer). The success rate is 55-60%.
ICSI stands for “Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection”. It is a technique where in a single sperm is injected into an egg.
Surgical Sperm Retrieval (SSR) can be a treatment option for men with no sperms in the ejaculate (azoospermia). The sperms are retrieved from the testes and can be used to fertilize the egg by ICSI technique.
It is a technique wherein the sperms, the eggs, or the embryos are preserved at -196⁰C temperature for future use whenever the need arises.
In the Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) cycle, the lining of the uterus is prepared naturally or by giving hormonal medications and is monitored by repeated ultrasounds. Once endometrium is ready, the frozen embryos are brought to normal temperature and transferred in the uterus under ultrasound guidance. The success rate is around 70%.
Assisted Hatching (AH) is a technique used in IVF that can improve the implantation of embryos into the uterus.
The sperms from a healthy anonymous donor can be used for IUI or IVF where the male partner is unable to produce sperms.
IVF using donor eggs is a procedure where the eggs are taken from an anonymous young and healthy female. The donor eggs are fertilized with male partner’s sperm and the resultant embryo is then transferred into the female partner’s uterus and can result in a pregnancy.
The couples who cannot produce optimal gametes to achieve their own genetic child can opt for embryo donation. It is like giving birth to an adopted child. In this procedure, the donated embryo is placed into the woman’s uterus and can result in a pregnancy.
The quality and integrity of sperms are vital factors in determining its motility, concentration and morphology. DNA fragmentation can damage sperm and can be a contributor of sub-fertility and recurrent pregnancy loss. DNA fragmentation index (DFI) is a superior diagnostic and prognostic tool used to evaluate the degree of damage of the sperm. The procedure offers far better results than traditional tests, detecting details that reach beyond conventional methods.
This process gives detailed information of the uterus, tubes, ovaries and other surrounding structures under anesthesia. It helps in identification and treatment of any underlying problem that may prevent normal conception. Direct visualization and correction of ovarian cysts, endometriosis, adhesions, hydrosalpinx, blocked tubes, fibroids, polyp, etc can be done at the same time. The correction of any fibroid /polyp/ synechiae/ septum can be done hysteroscopically along with it.
Surrogacy is an arrangement (under legal documentation) wherein, the embryo of the genetic parents is transferred into the uterus of a surrogate mother who carries the pregnancy and gives birth to the baby. The baby is then handed over to the intended parents.
